Privacy Policy
Last updated October 2026
Quiet Surface is built around a simple principle: your reflections are yours. This policy explains what data we collect, where it lives, and how it is used.
Your data stays on your device
Everything you write in Quiet Surface, including your weekly reflections, focus areas, energy ratings, and ideas, is stored locally on your iPhone using your device's built-in storage. Your data is not transmitted to our servers, not uploaded to the cloud, and not shared with any third party.
We do not have access to your reflection content. We cannot read it, retrieve it, or delete it on your behalf.
No account required
Quiet Surface does not require you to create an account, provide an email address, or sign in. The app works without any identifying information.
Themes found on your device
On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, Quiet Surface uses Apple's on-device model to notice themes that recur in your weekly writing. This runs entirely on your iPhone. Your writing is not sent to us, to Apple, or to anyone else, and the model does not write anything into your journal. The theme tags are kept on the device, separately from your entries, are not included in backups, and are rebuilt when needed. On other iPhones, this feature does not appear.
Reminders and the widget
The weekly reminder is scheduled by your iPhone itself; no server sends it. The home-screen widget is told only whether this week is done and which week it is. It never sees what you wrote.
Shortcuts and Siri
Quiet Surface offers one action for Siri and the Shortcuts app: Add an Idea. It works without unlocking your iPhone, because it can only add an idea; it never reads or shows anything you have written. An idea you add waits in storage on your iPhone that only Quiet Surface can read, until you next open the app. When you speak to Siri, Siri's own privacy terms apply to what you say.
Copies you save
You can save a copy of your journal as a file from Settings, and bring a copy back in. The file goes only where you send it with the share sheet, such as Files, iCloud Drive or AirDrop. We never see it. Once you send it somewhere, that place's own privacy terms apply.
Availability and children's privacy
Quiet Surface is currently available only in the United States. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
